What is MLD?

Although it is a body treatment, it is unlike massage as we know it. It works purely on the lymphatic system, not the muscular system. It was originally pioneered as a method to help cancer patients suffering from lymphoedema following surgery but can be useful for other conditions too.

 It works to clear the LS of excess fluid that may have built up. Also because of the role the LS plays in our immune system, it can help clear the body more quickly of toxins that may be present due to recent illness, stress, or other lifestyle factors, therefore supporting  the immune system.

 

What happens during a treatment?

You will lie on a couch the same as in any massage. You'll be covered at all times, apart from the area being treated. The pressure used in this treatment is extremely light because the lymph nodes and vessels are superficial near the skin surface. No oil is used in this treatment. A series of light pumping movements will be performed in a particular sequence,  to encourage the lymph to flow to the relevant nodes , back into the circulatory system and finally out via excretion. 

 

Which conditions does it help?

MLD is particularly helpful  for-

• Fatigue

• Low immunity such as recurrent colds,coughs etc

• ME

• Post Glandular Fever

• Cellulite

• Migraines

• Fluid retention

• Rheumatoid arthritis

• Post operative cases where lymph nodes have been removed E.g due to cancer treatment or there is swelling such as knee surgeries

 

It is also a very relaxing treatment to receive, therefore if you want to relax and support your immune system at the same time , this treatment is ideal.
